Brief Biographical Sketch:

My name is Matt and I grew up in a small village in Upstate New York. When I was in high school, I took my first chemistry class and fell head-over-heels in love with the material. It appealed to me so much because chemistry is related to so many things -- from the food we eat to the asphalt we walk on, chemistry is hard at work. At Princeton, I am a chemistry major and I specialize in organic chemistry. I am very excited to be a part of Splash, and to get to teach about chemistry, chocolate, and how the two are related (did I mention, CHOCOLATE?!?!?).

S45: The Chemistry of Chocolate in Splash Spring 13 (Apr. 27, 2013)
As so many people's favorite treat, chocolate has a deliciously rich history spanning several millennia. Besides a sweet snack, chocolate is also a perfect example of many interesting scientific phenomena. In our class, we will learn about the molecules in chocolate, discuss how thermodynamics drives chocolate's creation, and calculate a recipe of own in the name of "hands-on research."
