S74: Introduction to Fusion Energy in Splash Spring 13 (Apr. 27, 2013)
What is fusion energy? One of the great challenges of the 21st century will be finding sources of clean and plentiful energy to power our society. By smashing atoms together in the same sort of reactions that power the Sun, fusion power promises energy with no greenhouse gas emissions, that doesn't use large areas of land, doesn't create high levels of radioactive waste, and has enough fuel for tens of thousands of years. Learn the basics of the science behind nuclear fusion energy and about current research and progress toward a working fusion power plant.
