A809: Writing Narrative in the Digital Age in Splash 2024 (Apr. 20, 2024)
The internet has changed the world in an infinite amount of ways–but how has it changed the way we tell stories? Some writers still prefer their pen and paper, they go the old fashioned way until some editor or publisher mandates that they type it up and turn it into a pdf. But other writers are savy, they dive into the internet headfirst, curious about the ways they can use it to tell new kinds of stories. In this class, will look at some examples of fun and engaging stories people have written that wouldn’t be possible with just paper and pen. We’ll also spend some time as a group playing around with some free, user-friendly online software that allows you to write choose-your-own-adventure storylines.

A759: Poetry Online: Finding it then Writing it in Splash 2023 (Apr. 22, 2023)
This class gives an overview of online literary magazines. We’ll start by looking at some of the freshest poetry out there, stuff that’s just been released into the world earlier that week or even that day. I will also specifically go over teen lit mags—places for you to submit your work if that’s something you’re interested in, along with some tips about submitting. But also just places to read the work that your peers are writing. Then there will be some writing prompts to try in class, or not it’ll depend on what everyone in the room is most interested in doing. We’ll also just talk about poetry!
